Streams

  1. Experiences of co-creation and responsiveness processes, particularly the perspectives of citizens using social services.
  2. Creating channels of citizen input and shared decision-making inside social services and at policy level.
  3. Intersectional inequalities in voice and participation processes.
  4. Change processes within social services in response to the participation of citizens who use social services, including learning from what went wrong.
  5. The digitalisation of participatory and co-creation processes.
  6. Advocacy, campaigning, mutual support and self-representation by people using social services.
  7. Evaluating the outcomes and impact of responsiveness to citizen voice in social services, potentially including social return on investment (SROI) analyses.
  8. Participation of persons using social services in teaching, training and the evaluation of social services.
  9. Methodological approaches for researching citizen participation and the responsiveness of social services to citizen voice.
  10. Theoretical approaches to participation in social services (e.g. deliberative democracy, co-creation, participation and responsiveness).
  11. Legal and policy frameworks for democracy and responsiveness to citizen voice

Proposal Submission

Please submit your proposal by 12 December 2025 through the platform https://responsive.iscsp.ulisboa.pt/2-3_submisson.php according to the following guidelines:

  • Individual submission and Poster: an abstract of maximum 500 words that gives the presentation title, background/research problem, methods/data and results (depending on the practices of the discipline).
  • Panel: a proposal of maximum 500 words that explains the overall theme of the session and includes a 200-word abstract for each of the 3-4 papers to be presented in the session. The session proposal should include the names and institutional affiliations of all presenters, as well as the titles of their papers. A single-panel application is sufficient for all papers; individual speakers do not need to submit separate abstracts.
  • Book presentation: a 300-word summary of the book, 200-word biography, information on any reviews that have been published and a link to the publisher’s website.

 

The conference is co-hosted by the Institute for Social and Political Sciences of the University of Lisbon and the Division of Social Intervention of the Municipality of Amadora.

The event is free of charge.
